do you find yourself...
  • sick of counting calories, grams and points
  • confused by food - what to eat, when and with what
  • feeling like a failure because you gained it all back
  • stressed with little time to prepare meals
  • battling or trying to manage with any dis-ease with painfully slow progress
  • wishing you could eat cleaner and more organic but your pocketbook simply won't allow it
  • eating clean and doing everything you're 'supposed' to and STILL have no energy, trouble sleeping or concentrating
  • feeling disconnected, impatient or overwhelmed
  • craving a deeper, more rich life experience
  • wanting to bring your spiritual practice and experience to the next level
you are not alone!

So many of us think and see ourselves, and even more dangerously determine our self-worth based on what we look like on the outside, what we've accomplished, what size we fit in or who we're with. We become consumed with comparing and looking good - as if our thoughts, level of happiness and relationships will magically transform when we fit into that dress, or rock the bikini, or look good at our class reunion. But there is no peace in living this way. It's on again, off again, some new fix, fad, or pill. It's exhausting and quite literally syphons the energy out of the present moment, leaving us unfulfilled, frustrated and self-judgemental. It's a vicious cycle that we have ALL found ourselves in and will perpetuate unless we step INTO our experience and begin to consciously choose otherwise.

In other words, in order for your "diet" to work, your body has to be given the chance to work with it AND for your "diet" to work, your mind must also be given the chance to work with it. It's about finding balance, discovering how you respond and putting in place small, manageable and consciously chosen actions over time to develop a personalized sustainable model of whole-being health and wellness that will last you a lifetime.

When we prioritize our self-care, we simply have more to give. And when our heart wants to give more than anything, we have the opportunity of opening up to our greater purpose - tapping into that Divine source within us all, strengthening our faith and allowing it to lead us through life from a place of being and seeing rather than doing and having. That's life, simply beautiful.

Our ability to change is quite simply based on our ability to choose differently. You cannot continue to do the same thing expecting different results, that's the definition of insanity! But in order to make the best decision for YOU - not your mom, your brother, your husband or your dog - but FOR YOU, you must have three things: knowledge, support and belief.

knowledge...
  • our food system is becoming more and more depleted - we simply do not have the time, resources or space to grow food the way it used to be grown, replenishing the soil with vital minerals between crops, leaving most of our produce seriously lacking in phytonutrients. So much so that a dandelion weed growing through the cracks of your driveway has more nutrient concentration than a bowl of spinach. (Click HERE for a great article featured in the NY Times about decreasing phytonutrient levels over time)
Picture
  • organic is not always better - sourcing is KEY, knowing where our food comes from, how it was harvested and what it was sprayed and "protected" with during the growth period as well as what was added or removed during production and how is it preserved for travel. These are all things that typically don't run through our heads in the grocery store aisle but play a big role in nutrient saturation and what we're receiving from it - remember food is supposed to FUEL!
  • we as a society, in general, have become fast, cheap and easy - from eating out more to using everything prepared/prepackaged, frozen and instant. We are simply trying to keep up with our lives, get everyone where they need to be and sadly as a result, our nutrition (our fueling source) and our health is becoming compromised. This does NOT have to be!
  • cortisol - we ALL know stress can kill you but a lot of us don't know that our body does not distinguish between good and bad stress. Stress is stress to our body regardless of whether it's working out at the gym, running from a bad guy or crying at a chic flick. So what's the big deal? Your body releases cortisol (a hormone produced in the adrenal glands found on top of each kidney) and when chronically elevated (as a result of extended periods of stress and overwhelm) can result in weight gain, weight retention, and elevated risk of immune dis-function and chronic dis-ease. With the exception of maybe the Dalai Lama, who isn't stressed MOST of the time? Which makes finding a solution for balancing cortisol and supporting adrenal gland function imperative for everyone! (Two great articles on stress and cortisol: ONE and TWO)
  • pH - we test it in the pool, why is it important in our bodies? Just as a neutral pH is what we target in a pool, our body also thrives and functions optimally at or right around 7. When our systemic pH moves out of this range, our body attempts to bring things back to balance by tapping our stores of neutralizing nutrients and unfortunately are often taken from sources where we need them for other systemic functions, leaving us deficient less efficient and perpetually catching up. Optimal bone health for one is directly tied or connected to maintaining a neutral systemic pH. The more acidic our environment becomes the more dis-ease we can potentially experience in immune function and energy. (For a great article on blood pH and systemic health click HERE)
  • minerals - extremely important and most of us do not have enough, regardless of how clean or organic you eat. Minerals are inorganic substances that can be found in plants, animals, rock, soil and water and play an important role in many metabolic functions (including turning our food into energy) as well as for growth and development and maintaining optimal systemic functioning.
  • amino acids - quite literally the building blocks of life, amino acids are organic substances that make up proteins. Some we can make naturally (we call them "nonessential" amino acids and there are 4 to be exact: alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, and glutamic acid), some we absolutely must get from food (we call them "essential" amino acids and there are 9:histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine) and some that come into play when we're sick or stressed (we call them "conditional" aminos and they are: arginine, cysteine, glutamine, tyrosine, glycine, ornithine, proline, and serine) Our body takes in protein (made of amino acids), breaks down that protein (using minerals) resulting in more amino acids that are sent throughout the body, only to yet again restructure/build different proteins for things like: growing, repairing body tissue, energy and systemic functioning. SO much is happening in our bodies!!
  • environmental factors - we are inundated on a daily basis with hundreds of chemicals, pollutants and solvents that are simply beyond our control. Our body naturally detoxes and works diligently to maintain a healthy balance but several factors can inhibit our ability to successfully eliminate impurities leaving our systems burdened, overwhelmed and in turn less efficient. Boo!
  • intermittent fasting - evidence based research shows that intermittent fasting has profound effects on our body and brain health. When we allow our body to rest for a designated amount of time, not engaged in digestion (which requires a tremendous amount of energy), our body can focus it's energies on things like: performing cellular repair, altering certain hormone levels making stored fat available to burn (weightloss as a BONUS side effect, yes please!), increases the amount of growth hormone available, reduces insulin resistance and reduces oxidative stress, just to name a few. It is important to note that fasting beyond 48 hours can actually negatively impact your body and brain and can result in the break down of muscle and bone tissue. Yeay for knowledge! support...
  • knowing we have support makes stepping out of our comfort zone a bit less scary
  • knowing we're not going it alone gives us courage
  • knowing we're part of something bigger than just ourselves instills a sense of belonging and inspiration
  • being a part of a safe and facilitated environment encourages us to be authentic with our feelings and experiences
  • knowing we have someone (or a group of someones) helps us stay committed and engaged, even when it's not fun or easy
  • being witness to someone else's journey is an honor and privilege and inspires us to be brave in our own
  • Together We Achieve More!
belief...
  • beliefs are based in how we perceive ourselves
  • belief is seeing POSSIBILITY
  • belief is the willingness to try - again and again even when you fail
  • belief is tied to self-worth
  • belief is integral for change
  • belief is what keeps us going
  • belief can be borrowed until you discover your own
